Newzapalooza Annual Media Battle of the Bands Turns it to 12<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hacks about to rock for a good cause at The Media Event of the Year \u2122<\/em><\/p>\n

TORONTO \u2014 It\u2019s one more sleep until the show, we got a tank full of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it\u2019s getting dark early \u2026 and we\u2019re wearing sunglasses. As Jake told Elwood: \u201cHit it.\u201d For the past year, musically-inclined hacks have been busy putting the bands back together \u2014 and in some cases, making brand new ones \u2014 for a terrific show and cause.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at The Opera House, 735 Queen St. E., six bands made up of hacks from the Toronto Sun, The Globe and Mail, National Post, BNN, Toronto Star, The Canadian Press and Huffington Post, will take to the stage to raise money for the Children\u2019s Aid Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It its 12th<\/sup> year, the event has raised more than $150,000 for the foundation, which provides scholarships and supports for vulnerable young people who have been taken into the care of children\u2019s aid societies.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re delighted to say Candy Palmater<\/a> of The Candy Show<\/a> is this year\u2019s host. This year\u2019s panel of celebrity judges includes activist and journalist Desmond Cole<\/a>, Toronto city councilor Paula Fletcher<\/a>, music journalist Lana Gay<\/a> of Indie 88 and Roz Weston<\/a>, entertainment reporter with ET Canada and co-host of the Roz and Mocha Show on Kiss 92.5.<\/p>\n

Special thanks to this year\u2019s growing list of sponsors, which includes Home Depot<\/a>,\u00a0The Opera House<\/a>, Long & McQuade Musical Instruments<\/a>, Heineken<\/a>, Nikon Canada<\/a>, Ace Awards<\/span><\/a>, Rogers<\/a>, Toronto Star<\/a>, Toronto Sun<\/a>, Bandit Brewery<\/a>, Halo Brewery<\/a>, Lansdowne Brewery<\/a>, Henderson Brewery<\/a> and The Local Pub<\/a>. There will be promotional draws for cool stuff the night of, including concert tickets, a camera, sports memorabilia and more.<\/p>\n

In this year\u2019s publisher challenge AOL Canada was quick to wager $1,000 on The Huffingtones, confident it will unseat Conrad Black Sabbath, the reigning Newzapalooza champs.<\/p>\n

Doors and the bar open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door or from members of the media bands taking part. The Opera House is a kid-friendly venue, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.<\/p>\n
