\"cbs_winnerscrop\"<\/a>National Post\u2019s Conrad Black Sabbath wins again, Globe and Mail\u2019s Fun With Discipline cry foul, and, Death Hoax & Huffingtones debuts stunners<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

TORONTO,<\/strong> Nov. 6 2016<\/strong> \u2014 Giant paper mache heads of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump mesmerized the audience as the National Post\u2019s Conrad Black Sabbath stole the show and Jonathan Jenkins memorial trophy for a second straight year at The Media Event of The Year<\/em> \u2122.<\/p>\n

Every single dollar raised, \u2014 from the entrance tickets to the raffle and Conrad Black Sabbath T-shirts sales \u2014 goes to the Children\u2019s Aid Foundation<\/a> and Friday night we pulled in an epic $17,000, thanks to you and our righteous sponsors. We\u2019re delighted to say that in the years since this began we have raised over $167,000 for what is one of the country\u2019s most worthy charities. The foundation works with over 50 child welfare agencies, providing support and scholarships for vulnerable young people.<\/p>\n

A YUGE shout out of thanks goes to our host Candy Palmater<\/a> and judges Lana Gay<\/a>, Paula Fletcher<\/a>, Andrea Houston<\/a> and Roz Weston<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the end of the night, honourary Newzapalooza co-chairs Maizey and Dexter Westaway \u2014 daughter and son of the late Jonathan Jenkins, who co-founded the event \u2014 presented Sarah Boesveld of Conrad Black Sabbath, once more, with the big trophy named after their dad. The Globe and Mail\u2019s Fun With Discipline 13-member ensemble, led by Robyn Doolittle, came up second again while newcomers Death Hoax, in their first ever appearance at Newzapalooza, screamed into third place with their classic covers.<\/p>\n

Special thanks to this year\u2019s sponsors, especially long-standing support from Long & McQuade Musical Instruments<\/a> and The Opera House<\/a> and its terrific staff, including manager Athena Ellinas-Towers. Ace Awards donated the coveted trophy. AOL<\/a> came in big this year with a $1,000 donation. And a round of applause to Heineken<\/a>, Nikon Canada<\/a>, Ace Awards<\/span><\/a>, Rogers<\/a>, Toronto Star<\/a>, Post Media<\/a>, Bandit Brewery<\/a>, Halo Brewery<\/a>, Lansdowne Brewery<\/a>, Henderson Brewery<\/a> and The Local Pub<\/a>. for draw prizes.<\/p>\n
